Contract was signed on May, 1st 1816

200 years ago, on May 1st in 1816 in the old Residence a contract was signed to officially declare Salzburg as part of Austria. To mark this special occasion the Salzburg Museum is hosting a special exhibition trilogy under the collective title "Bischof. Kaiser. Jedermann" (Bishop.Emperor.Everyman). This is open until the end of October displaying valuable items that are being shown in the city for the first time in 200 years. There is also a second exhibition divided into twelve thematic areas telling different stories and legends from the Mozart city. In the third exhibition photographers and video artists breathe new life into historical parts of the city.

200 years of Salzburg: Salzburg celebration highlights
From April 30th until October 30th 2016, visitors to the Schatzkammer Salzburg (Treasures of Salzburg), Erzähl mir Salzburg! (Tell me Salzburg!) and Am Schauplatz (On Location) national exhibitions can get an insight into Salzburg’s exciting history from a rich principality, to wars and the changing rule right up to the modern day.

The exhibitions enchant visitors and encourage reflection. They show the history of Salzburg, without forgetting the present and the future. The Salzburg Museum, Residence, the Museum of Modern Art, the Museum of Natural History and the Outdoor museum (Freilichtmuseum) have also adopted this theme and created special exhibitions. Another highlight: The Salzburg Music Festival will also focus on the topic in the coming festival season and bring it to the stage.
