World-famous names on the festival program

The Russian soprano Anna Netrebko is one of the World’s most celebrated opera stars and prominent singers of the present.

Her celebrated debut at Salzburg Festival was in 2002 as Donna Anna in Mozart’s „Don Giovanni“. Since then she performed with nearly all great opera houses around the World singing important roles including Mozart’s Susanna (Le nozze di Figaro), Puccini’s Mimì (La bohème) and Manon Lescaut, Verdi’s Violetta (La traviata), Bellini’s Giulietta (I Capuleti e i Montecchi), Donizetti’s Norina (Don Pasquale), Lucia di Lammermoor and Anna Bolena etc.

Celebrating her greatest triumphs in world-renowned operas such as the Metropolitan Opera in New York (2002 in Verdi’s Il trovatore), at the Vienna State Opera (2006 in Donizetti’s Anna Bolena) or at La Scala Milan (2012 in Puccini’s La bohème). Also unforgettable her performance as Leonora in Il trovatore at the Salzburg Festival in 2014 and 2015. Besides her opera engagements, Anna Netrebko gives recitals and concerts all over the world. Concerts at the Waldbühne Berlin, Schloss Schönbrunn in Vienna or Moscow’s Red Square have been internationally broadcasted.

Anna Netrebko, born 1971 in Krasnodar, Russia, studied vocal performance at the St. Petersburg Conservatory. During an audition at the Mariinsky Theatre, she was spotted by Valery Gergiev, who became her vocal mentor. At the age of 22 she made her operatic stage debut at Mariinsky Theatre, singing Susanna in Mozart’s Le nozze di Figaro and made her US debut one year later.
