Sternadvent Salzburg
Wish tree at the Sternadvent Salzburg

Open each day from 18 November to 6 January 2017

The run-up to Christmas begins when the „Sternadvent“ (ꞌStarry Adventꞌ) opens up on 18 November. Starting then, the Sternarkaden (starry arcades) around the Sternbräu, lovingly embellished to look their very best, host the event that is the insidersꞌ tip among Salzburg’s Christmas markets.

Even from some distance away, roasted almonds, hot maroni (chestnuts) and spicy mulled wine capture the aromas of the Christmas season, enticing visitors to a truly special advent market, the ꞌSternadventꞌ in Salzburg’s Old Town. A magical place emerges between the historic streets Getreidegasse and Griesgasse, lovingly decorated to summon up that distinctive atmosphere. Handicrafts conjure up fabulous specialities in wood, visitors find candles and other appealing smoky aromas, and baked specialities and fine liqueurs make the occasion a pure pleasure. It is a place for visitors to be amazed, for finding beautiful gifts and for meeting up with friends.

Each day, from 10.30 a.m., culinary delights and an impressive setting spark visitors‘ enthusiasm. Children enjoy seeing the sheep and hares in the living crib. A whole range of events and the many sounds of Christmas call old customs and traditions to life again. This is where children and adults experience an advent that could scarcely be imagined as being more tranquil, sensual and wonderful than it really is.
