Once again Vienna has been awarded with the highest-quality-of-living-Oscar worldwide! In the annual Mercer survey Vienna continues to lead the international cities ranking for the seventh time in a row followed by Zurich (2) and Auckland (3).
According to Mercer, the survey evaluates the local living conditions in more than 231 cities worldwide, analyzed and grouped in 39 specified criteria based on political, social, economic, and environmental factors. Besides, the study also considered issues such as medical care, educational opportunities, as well as the general infrastructure e.g. public transportation, power and water supply.
Furthermore Vienna tops the recreational activities aspect such as restaurants, first class cultural events, opera, theater, shows, open air concerts, cinemas etc. as well as the great sport facilities.
A well-developed infrastructure in a city has a great influence on the quality of living as well as alternatives in the local traffic; the regional and international connection and the supply of electricity and drinking water belong to the basic requirements. "Personal security" is increasingly recognized as a criterion that is becoming ever more important in times of terror and war.
