Salzburg is home to a story that has touched the hearts of millions of people for generations. As the operator of the Original Sound of Music Tour, we accompany guests from all over the world daily in the footsteps of the Trapp family. With the new Sound of Music Museum Salzburg at Hellbrunn Palace, this world of The Sound of Music in Salzburg now takes on a new dimension. In the historic buildings film history and reality merge into a modern exhibition experience.

Please note that a visit to the Sound of Music Museum is NOT included in the Original Sound of Music Tour.

The Magic begins in Hellbrunn

The museum is located in one of the most beautiful spots in the city of Salzburg. A baroque complex of buildings has been extensively renovated right at the entrance to Fürstenallee near Hellbrunn Palace. Here, you can immerse yourself in the world you love from the movies. The architecture combines Salzburg’s historic charm with innovative technology. It is the perfect place to experience the spirit of the film as well as the true story of the von Trapp family.

The Hollywood Myth and the Real von Trapp Family

We know that our guests appreciate both the film and the family’s true story. The Sound of Music Museum bridges exactly this gap: The exhibition traces the journey from Maria von Trapp’s memoirs through the Broadway musical to the legendary global success starring Julie Andrews.

•    Learn all about the global phenomenon of the famous Hollywood movie “The Sound of Music”.

•    Explore the true story of the von Trapp family and gain historical context about the famous Trapp Family Singers.

The Gazebo as a 360-Degree Experience

A special highlight awaits you at the end of the museum. We all know the famous Gazebo in the Hellbrunn Palace gardens, which is a staple of our Original Sound of Music tours.

The museum now features a sensation unique in the world: a faithful replica of the Gazebo that you can actually step inside. In this 360-degree cinematic projection room, you’ll become part of the famous scene from “Sixteen Going on Seventeen.” Thanks to a strikingly realistic 3D presentation, it feels as though you’re right in the middle of the movie. A spine-tingling moment no fan should miss!
